National Women's has two Lactation Consultants who assist mothers and babies who are needing extra help with breastfeeding both in the hospital and after discharge. Lactation Consultants specialise in breastfeeding management.Working with maternity service staff as well as mothers. The Maternity Service Lactation Consultant focuses on the mothers who have their baby with them in a postnatal ward The Newborn Services Lactation Consultant assists mothers who have a baby that is receiving care in the newborn service. A key part of the lactation Consultant role is to provide ongoing support and education to staff as well as to parents, to ensure information provided on infant feeding is consistent and up to date Breastfeeding Management modules are updated yearly and study days are held for National Women's staff working in the maternity and newborn services.
